Bridget Oh Bridget

December 13, 2008

So, yeah, I’ve heard. Have you? The sainted one is coming to New York City! She got new boots! They’re really cool!

It’s been a year! And you got new boots! They’re really cool! oh, and “we should talk” which is girl code for “let me lay a guilt trip on you for being all pissed off” Well why shouldn’t I be? It’s been a fucking year! Ok, so it’s been ten months but it felt like a year! I was here for you. Hell I moved here for you. You knew that and you left “for my own good.”

Fuck that.

But you got new boots! They’re really cool!

Ok, so I do kinda wanna see the new boots.

Maybe one of these days, but not today. Maybe when you’re ready. It’s for your own good.

I need one of those live journal things so I can do a mood: sour and have my face like a lemon because this could rapidly turn into one of those blogs and nobody wants that.

Ritual? Anyone? Anyone?

December 10, 2008

Hey yo!

Anyone out there know anything about a ritual or something ritualistic. I tried the whole hooty thing and that’s cool but we need something more better. I don’t know. I don’t have details but I thought I’d throw it out there on the off chance.

Saint Feline is stuck at the temple (we found the temple! in huge part to mapmaker so thanks dude) trying to keep everyone safe. It’s crazy down there but we haven’t lost anyone yet I don’t think.

All I’ve gathered is that the dude formerly known as the drummer (currently known as the old bastard) mentioned something to her about it and all any of us can get from him is some hoodoovoodoo and the occasional bit about synchronicity or synchronizing watches. Hell if I know the dude’s out there.

You guys are crazy smart so I’m hoping someone doesn’t think I’ve lost it and can give me a heads up. I don’t think she’ll be able to hold off much longer. So please, if you’ve got something let me know. I’m diving back in to see what else we got. I’ll be back soon fingers crossed.

Edited! Ok, so I couldn’t sleep. I tried and tried and I think I was trying to hard but at one point I was just sort of mapping everything out in my head you know like counting sheep and it hit me that the temple. Wait. Look at that map in the next post down or, um, back… I’ll wait.

See how the “red soon to be light purple” dots sort of make a diamond shape. Well, there’s two more. And if you squint a bit and say hoo it looks like this drawing in this picture that Dante showed me (have you all seen it? It’s in the comments somewhere or just ask him or maybe he’ll post it in these comments) and that’s gotta mean something, right? But I’ve done that and then gone to bed and then tried to help her open the door and nothing has happened. Maybe we’re doing it wrong. Are you sure it’s hoo hoo? We’re totally missing something.

Edited! Edited! Mapmaker! Yo! What’s the deal with the whistle? Why’d you ask ’bout it? I think you’re on to something! Can you whistle? You got one near you? Anyone? We could use all the help we could get. Seriously!

Making a (mess of a) map

December 9, 2008

So, I took a stab at adding some of the stuff from all those calls onto Map’s Map (and Obtus’s toos’s). But I didn’t make a list of stuff and I can’t really stand to sit here and listen to all those calls over and over again. Anyone out there make a list of stuff or have anything to add or have their own they’re working on? I’m never really in that area so I’m kinda runnin’ blind, but it’s a start.

MapsMap5

Edited! New map showing the messed up alleys and with two, yes two, water towers. and a rogue purple box that I just moved out of the way when i was creating purple boxes and forgot about. heh.

Edited! Again! This time with the garden and the old house and the statues in the park and the crumbled marble.

Edited! Again! Again! This time with something suspicious, a pond and more statues!

Ouch.

December 9, 2008

Ever have one of those mornings (or noons) when you wake up feeling like you’ve been run over? Yeah? I wish I felt that good. Shit. I don’t know what the hell happened last night. One minute I was all Bridget! I need your help getting this thing out of the stone! Puhleeeeeeeeeeeeese! It’s really cool looking I want I want I want! and the next minute I was laying on the ground in the cemetery surrounded by a bunch of freaked out cats staring at me like I was some sort of ghost. It was hard as hell to get any sort of anything out of em. About the best I got was shesheshe she just left you here.

So what the fuck oh sainted one. You zap me or something and then just drop me off at the cemetery hoping I’d be ok. Really fucking cool. One of these days it’d be nice if you’d stick around next time you nearly kill me. It’s not like I moved across the country for you or anything.

Fucking girls. Fucking stupid sploit for trusting em.

beep! not that one! this one!

December 8, 2008

Popped online tonight and saw an email box filled with calls into Nightmare Confessions! Awesome! It took a couple months but finally the site’s being used like I thought it would be. So, just a word out to all you dreamer peeps, if you’ve got anything to add or wanna give a listen to what other folks is saying, head on over to NightmareConfessions.com and then call in! Whatcha waiting for, slacker?

And to the dude that got chased by the beasts… Mammoths! Yes! Those are the beasts that that were back by the ruins. Great description of em. That’s about the only thing that comes close to what they look like. But they’re that close to the road now? This today? And you felt Saint Feline all the way there? She was kinda weak the other day well not like what your talking about. Anyway, glad the slab tip paid off. I’m tellin’ ya, best place to spend the scream and I’m calling it for next year!

MINE!

Later, our heroes skip through the woods…

December 6, 2008

which you may have noticed since you can actually see them.

Ok, not really. But you can see a map!

Madlands - Map of the Woods (top side)

See! A map!

The woods are actually a pretty cool place to hang out, so I was surprised that I only came across one or two other cats. If anyone’s reading this and interested in checking it out…I’d suggest going into the woods before you get to the stretch of roads with the houses since lots of freaks hanging out around there. Also don’t go looking for the path from the road cause you ain’t going to see it until you’re used to looking for it. Heck, I dunno if it even exists or if I was just making it up. But if you insist on looking for the path, the easiest place to find it would be behind the run down shack that, I think, was a store at one time. I had to duck in there to get away from some dude looking for a kitty snack and there was a long counter with a busted up cash register. If you go behind it and duck behind a couple trees you’ll come across some really tall dead grass stuff – that’s it. As a plus, I never really saw any crazy beasts or anything down in that area, so you’ll be safe for a bit. Not that you shouldn’t be aware just in case, but you know that by now. If you do happen to run across something, head to the old stone slab things that I hung out by during the scream. You could probably get enough cover by squeezing underneath and between some rocks. Don’t go deeper into the woods cause you’ll come across a pretty sparsely treed area and you’ll be fucked. The wind messes with your mind a bit and it’s crazy easy to get turned around and hard to find a good place to hide without going up and then you gotta get down. No fun.

There’s loads of places to explore and, overall, it’s pretty safe, just be aware. Plus there’s lots of cool stuff to find. I know I came across more but I just can’t remember what or where. I mean, there was this funky old archway, but I can’t for the life of me remember where that was. So if you’re in an exploring mood, take notes and send em my way. If you don’t really want to explore but want to see some cool stuff, check out the ruins I marked on the map.

The freaky ruins were, well, freaky. It’s huge and my guess is that it was an old castle of some sort. The building is pretty much gone – a couple stone walls here and there, but you can get down into some of the lower rooms. They’re mostly empty so you don’t see much but you can make out some cool old paintings or something. Also some crazy old broken up statues that weren’t like anything you’d see in the city. Well, the one was kind of like the one on the old fountain in the plaza. I’d have to get back down there to know for sure. If you want to go, when you come to what I think was a lake, keep walking around it towards the left. There’s a herd of some crazy animal hanging out sort of to the right of the ruins. I dunno how cat friendly they are, but do you really want to find out?

I’m calling the one thing just off the path a house. I don’t know that it was but there was definitely a brick fireplace of sorts. It looks like there were a couple of buildings, but I don’t know, maybe it was just a bunch of those outdoor stoves? One of them’s been used recently. My bet is that it was our Sainted One cause she was the only human type that I saw in the woods. You’ll know you’re getting close to this place because most of the trees around it have been marked with an X which is another reason why I think it was Saint Feline. She was marking trees when I saw her.

The last one, I’m calling a campground. I have no idea what it was. It’s just a big open area and it looks like there were a couple of water troughs of some sort. It’s too woody to be some sort of stable area, so I don’t think it was that. I dunno. But there’s one that’s almost upside down that makes a hell of a hiding spot. Ain’t nothing getting you if you can squeeze under the side.

If you want to get up in the air for a decent view of things, head up to the orchard. The trees look scary as hell, but they make for some amazing climbing and you’re not going to get stuck in them. There are a lot of branches that you can jump to and from. It’s a good place to take a rest, too. There are some big ass birds flying around the place, but the higher branches keep them away and the stuff on the ground can’t reach you. It’d make for a decent platformer mini game, too. You know, if the Madlands would ever get made into a game.

The biggest warning I can give you, from experience, is that if you find yourself running from whatever the hell it is that’s living near the grassy area, run towards the road and not away from it. You’ll find yourself near a big cliff looking down over a river. It’s not huge or nothing, but maybe 20 feet. Enough to hurt if you had to jump down.

And, the best for last… see what I did there, I forced you to skim all the way down here to read about the Beautiful One. She’s looking a bit rough. I didn’t really dare go up to her but I know she saw me. She’s up to something but hell if I know what it is. I saw her a couple different places. She’d walk around a bit, get pissed off, then write a big X on a couple of trees. You’ll find these Xs all over the place. No clue what in the hell she’s doing, but good to see that she’s doing ok.

Got any more to add? Anyone planning on heading up there?

Good morning, uh, sun?

December 4, 2008

Shit! There is no sun when you get up at 6pm. How in the hell did that happen?

Who cares! It’s fuckin’ awesome! I can’t believe I just slept 18 hours people. EIGHTEEN HOURS! I haven’t gotten that much sleep in a single day since I don’t when. Hell, I didn’t even get that much sleep when they tied me to that hospital bed. Bastards thought they could take me. HA! I showed them. I stayed up anyway! Not today though. Nope. I slept all damn day and I feel amazing. Seriously. I gotta do this again. I mean once you’re asleep, you’re asleep. It’s not like the dream lasts any longer. Well maybe it does. I don’t know. I sure as heck saw a lot. Wasn’t too bad though, really. It most definitely wasn’t like the past couple of Wednesday. I think it was Wednesdays. I don’t know. Plus I was in the woods. They’re a bit freaky and there are things there that go boo! but not really boo! more like EEEEEEE! and GRRRR! and aaaarOOOOOO! definitely not anything a little cat like me wants to run into, but still it’s gotta be better than the stuff walking around the city which makes it a pretty cool place to be.

So, yeah, I kinda overslept. Ha! never thought I’d say that again. I’ve got a mind full of stuff that I want to share, but I am way too wired to sit here and type it all out into anything that anyone but me would understand. I think I need to go off and find me some breakfast and maybe walk off some of this energy and then plop down in front of that map I keep promising.

EIGHTEEN HOURS! Damn I feel good.

The Madlands – Map’s Map (and Obtus’s toos’s)

December 2, 2008

A couple of weeks ago… Mapmaker and Obtusitivity sent me maps that they had been working on. It was kinda strange looking at it cause there was a load of stuff on there that I wouldn’t have ever thought to include in a map. I guess we all see things in our own way. But I promised that I’d take a look and see if I could figure out what and where stuffs were. This was the best I could come up with.

Map's Map (and Obtus's toos's) - a sploit's eye view

A couple of caveats to go… This is no where near scale. I mean it’s a hell of long walk to get to the cemetery from the plaza and you can make it to the drummer from there in just a minute or two. The other strangeness is the road by the cemetery – it’s really long and sort of curves down around the city towards the water. There’s also a bunch of crap on there that I don’t recognize, so I made some reasonable guesses.

  • Coffee Shop: there are or were a ton of coffee shops around. There’s one just up the street from the fountain and that’s where it was, but it was on the wrong corner so I fixed that.
  • Hotel: like the coffee shop there were a few of these around especially down by the harbor. Most are dust now, though. Educated guess based on where it was on the other map.
  • Bar: there are loads of bars around. Most aren’t worth anything and you’re likely to get killed if you go in one. I had a kind of crappy experience at one, so that’s the one I put it on. Thanks for the memories.
  • Warehouses: There are streets and streets of these things. The docks are full of em.

Things I left off:

  • Old House: That could be a million things. If you got more than that maybe I can help. I left it off just cause I don’t even know what to guess.
  • Kevin’s Building: I ain’t got a clue who or what you’re talking about. Got any more for me to go on?

Things I added:

  • Apt: There’s a cat that lived there back in the day. She’s still got a bit of an attachment to the place. Figured I’d throw it on.
  • Library: While I was mapping out that street, I figured I’d put the most notable feature. Just in case anyone’s looking for it.

How’d I do? Think you can do better?

note: Obtusitivity…You get no love man. I left you off the title of the map. I suck like that. Don’t kill me. I’ll cry in my beer every night for a week or two days to make up for it. I also left off the boobs. It needs more research before I can know I got the right ones.

The Madlands – a bird’s eye view

December 2, 2008

So way back when like last year. Max and I got on this mission to map the place out neighborhood by neighborhood. We came up with eight of em. I think they make sense, if anyone else has been there and wants to tell me we’re idiots, that’s cool. I don’t know if I’ve got it all right cause there’s no way in hell you’re getting me in the city let alone up in some building. I mean sure, some people seem to be mellowed out a bit, but I kinda like not being some freak’s midnight snack and that would just be asking for it. But take this more as a rough guide. The neighborhoods blend like they do in any city. I mean you don’t just have big blank spaces like you do here.

So…
map

No laughing at the graphics. I stole the trees from a little 2d platformer I was working on in flash. I have no excuse for the mountains. You can laugh at them. I tried to make hills but gave up. Pretend there are hills up by BFE. Kinda past it really. Shit. This is why I don’t do maps. It’s never gonna be right.

BFE: There’s really nothing out that way. An old train station. Some hills. There’s a small lake – it almost divides the hills and the woods, really. I was hanging out here for a while. It’s pretty quiet and safe and, if you’re in the mood for some killing, there are little critters around. I don’t really get off on that, but some do.

City Core: If you were going to use real world measurements, I’d say it probably a couple square miles at the most. It’s pretty tall and dense in parts, but we’re not looking at anything like NYC. It’s probably more like Seattle or some other mid-sized city, so there are pockets where it’s dense and then it opens up a bit and you’re looking at a stretch of shorter maybe 5 story buildings. It definitely has the feel of an old city with some narrow streets and a lot of random alleys that might turn and dead end.

Harbor: The most notable place here is the area around the casino. I’d guess that it’s just left of center looking at the map this way. I’m pretty curious as to the shape of the place – it was always filled with people.

Hipsters & Wannabes: There are some taller buildings here, but it’s mostly brownstones or townhouse types. If the city was in any sort of decent shape, this would be a pretty cool area. It used to be that it was still pretty safe to walk in most places and steal a few sips of beer. If you’d cute up enough and do a few tricks, you could even score some decent food. But it’s been a while, I doubt you still could.

Industrial Wasteland: Lots of warehouses and industrial type places here. Max and I have been fascinated by this place – especially the area next to the harbor. There’s an attitude to the place you just don’t get in other places. Maybe over by the casino a bit, but it’s kind of watered down over there.

Lake: This is a lake. It has water. I wouldn’t drink it though. Might be more fun to splash around in if you didn’t have to lick yourself clean.

No Man’s Land: My map is way the fuck off. This goes on for miles before you get to the mountains. There’s nothing out there that I know of. A couple roads that head up to the mountains but it’s mostly just dead fields. It was probably farmland at some point.

Shore: This is kind of like Suburban Hell only cooler. I don’t know what makes it cooler other than it’s closer to water.

Slummier Slums: This is a pretty devastated area. The wall is right around here and is probably the best part of the place. I don’t know if it was ever nice, but it sure isn’t now.

Suburban Hell: Again, this is a lot bigger than it looks on the map. It also looks about like the suburbs in any other city. You got the working class suburbs all the way up to the McMansions.

University: You’ve got the school and related stuff. Has a real old feel to it. It’s a decent size but isn’t like a huge expansive state school. Last I saw it, parts of it were beginning to look a bit rough, but it was holding up a lot better than some of the surrounding areas. Must be all the smart people.

Woods: I’ve been paying closer attention to these lately. They go pretty much all the way around the one side of the city and, surprisingly, they’re actually pretty interesting and it has nothing to do with the fact that the hottest chick around seems to be hanging out there. Nope. Nothing. I’m going to try and put together a map of what I’ve seen so far. If this headache mellows, I might manage to get it up today.

Is this how you guys see things? Let me know here or on Nightmare Confessions.

Yo Yo Yo it’s a Yo Yo…Yo

November 26, 2008

The sploit man has returned. Not that I went anywhere. I just wasn’t here. Those of you that aren’t worried are pissed. I know. I saw the emails. And the comments. Don’t even talk to me about Nightmare Confessions going down for a couple days. I know! I just got all overwhelmed and the more shit piled up the more I just wanted to hide and then that’s just more shit and more hiding and more shit and more hiding and more shit and more hi! is that a pile of shit I’m sitting on?! Sweet.

Mom gets on my case about how I do better when I’ve got myself a routine and I’m beginning to think she might know what she’s talking about. The last few months. I don’t know. They’ve just been hell and there’s just no fucking escaping it, you know. I mean I’d give anything to just crawl into a bed and sleep for days but, yeah, like that would help. So I’m trying this routine thing and it seems to be working out pretty good. I’m still not right but I’m doing a heck of a lot better. Some might even say I’m back to being me and that’s pretty damn good.

I guess that’s why I stopped posting. I just couldn’t, you know. Two years of this crap just really messes with you. You get to the point where you think of anything and everything that you could possibly do to just make it all go away and some of those ideas are really stupid. I’m not saying that I took any of those ideas seriously but if I’d actually written them down? If I could go back and read weeks or months of archives of that shit? Talk about making a boy feel hopeless.  Who needs that? Seriously.

Anyway.

I am busting out of the City for few days to visit the folks down in Florida. Four fucking days in oldville woulda killed me back in the day. As soon as the last of those early bird dinner plates hit the buffet the town closes down. Rumor is there’s a bar somewhere but shit what’s the point when the chicks are polydent addicts. It’s the anti New York. It’s gonna be awesome. My parents don’t even have a computer. I bet there’s not even a wireless signal for miles. Four glorious days of no headaches.  It is so gonna be worth all the crap they’re gonna give me for ditching the “good” job and chasing some dream in NYC.

I’ve even got a plan for when I’m down there. I mean aside from the turkey and leftover turkey and turkey sandwiches and stuffing and mashed potatoes and green beans and pie and damn I can’t wait for some real food. I’m gonna dig into that map that I’ve been talking about for ages now. I even got myself some printouts! Gotta give a shoutout to Mapmaker and Obtusitivity for those. They’re not right but they ain’t bad. It’s kinda hard for me to like go all birdseye view in some places so don’t know what all is wrong with them but I’ll give it a go.

And now for some comments on some comments…

Thanks for all the messages about the diamond thing. I gotta be honest, I don’t really know what in the heck you’re talking about. Chakras? Mind’s eye? Diamonds? Crowns? Yeah, that all sounds like a bunch of new age mumbo jumbo to me. I mean, I’m not saying that’s bad, but it’s not really my thing.

Dante: I appreciate the slack and the message delivery. I’ve got a question though – what do you mean by CAREFUL DREAMER SACHO? Is that like BEWARE FALLING ROCK? Back when we were kids, we had this one kid convinced there was an Indian named Falling Rock running around scalping people and they put up signs where he’d been seen. Kid was freaked! So, um, yeah, should I be careful of a dreamer named Sacho? Cause, I gotta say I don’t know anyone named Sacho.

Dav: thanks for the heads up on Max. Just listened to the last few messages. Two ewes and an eff. Sounds like I should have been down by the docks. I found myself a good place out by the lake and have been hanging out there when I’m not by the wall. I missed the drums, but word is they could hear em out there echoing off the mountains. Craziness.

RavenWolf: I think I’ve got some of the issues with Nightmare Confessions worked out – let me know if you’ve run into any more problems!
